Rebuilding Together Henry County conducts home repairs for low-income primarily seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities, and families with children. All repairs are free-of-charge to the homeowner. Projects focus on safety, warmth, and independence. By providing essential home repairs, we are able to create safe and comfortable living environments while also fostering a sense of community and support.
Homeowners are referred through neighborhood associations, churches, synagogues, community organizations, and service groups, or by self-referral. Referrals are reviewed and projects are selected based on a variety of qualifications that include income level and current living situation.
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries in older adults, with up to 60% of them happening in or around the home. Safe at home provides low-cost, high-impact home modifications and minor repairs, enabling residents to live safely in their homes for years to come.
Our volunteer teams provide minor repairs and modifications such as installing grab bars in kitchens and bathrooms, securing or installing railings on interior and exterior stairs, adding toilet risers and shower bench chairs, switching out traditional shower heads with hand-held models, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and installing doorbells.
This program operates year-round on an as-needed basis to provide to best support to those in need in our community.
